Team Competitions

AZ GOLF participates in a select few annual team competitions throughout the year. Selection processes vary from event to event. Currently, the team competitions are included below.

Arizona vs Utah Shootout

An annual Ryder Cup-style competition between Arizona and Utah’s top amateur golfers, with hosting duties alternating each year.

Arizona’s team includes eight Open Men, two Senior Men (50+), two Legends Men (60+), two Open Women and two Senior Women (50+).

Eligibility: The top players on each division’s Player of the Year points list qualify automatically. AZ GOLF Tournament staff fill remaining spots from those lists. Active college golf team members are not eligible.

Bob Goldwater Cup

The Bob Goldwater Cup is an annual Ryder Cup-style competition between Arizona’s top amateurs and golf professionals, featuring 12-player Open and Senior teams.

Eligibility & Selection: Automatic selections are based on Player of the Year standings at the deadline listed on Golf Genius.

Open Team: Top 11 Open players, plus one captain’s pick.

Senior Team: Top nine players age 50+ from the Open and/or Senior lists, plus the top two Legends players and one captain’s pick.

Points leaders on the respective lists serve as captains. Captain’s picks must be AZ GOLF members in good standing who have played in at least one AZ GOLF event that calendar year. AZ GOLF Tournament Staff and the Tournament Committee fill vacancies within the applicable age group.

Pacific Coast Amateur Championship

AZ GOLF will host three players selected by the AZ GOLF Pacific Coast Trustees and AZ GOLF Staff. The Pacific Coast Amateur Management Committee has directed that each Association field a team of its best players using the WAGR and/or Scratch Players list. The selected players will receive uniforms and the entry fee paid by AZ GOLF. In addition, each player may receive a travel stipend determined by the Trustees.
