Kuehn & Kahler capture the crystal bowl

Kuehn & Kahler capture the crystal bowl

While it was Barbara Kahler's first time holding the crystal bowl, Lynn Kuehn has made her mark in history at the Arizona State Medallion twice before, in 2023 and 2020.

The format of the tournament is a cumulative score with one net score and one gross. Keuhn and Kahler (Red Mountain Ranch CC) put an impressive round together on Sunday at Oakwood Country Club, carding a combined 9-under-par.

RESULTS

"I did not have any expectations because my game's been going in the opposite direction," said Kahler, after her round today. "But ( with Kuehn's) influence and the course in great condition, I did really well today."

Kuehn, playing at gross on Sunday, worked her way to the top of the leaderboard with three birdies on the front and an even-par back nine, taking advantage of a course set up for success.

"Well it's not a Pete Dye course, so we're able to run it up to the hole," said Kuehn.

Even with chilly weather and wind to start, the field of over 250 golfers persevered, with two-person teams representing various clubs across the state. The lower handicap player of the pair played at gross, and the higher played at a net score.

NOTABLE

  • The field played two of the three 9-hole Oakwood courses, Lakes and Palms, on Saturday and Sunday. Friday's 9-hole round was played on the Sonoran course.

  • The hardest hole on the course was the par-5 hole 9 of the Palms Course, with a scoring average of 6.81 across the two days.
  • The easiest hole on the course was the par-3 hole 3 on the Lakes Course, with a scoring average of 3.64 across the weekend.
