Interclub FAQ's
Eligibility
-
Is there a handicap limit?
For Men’s Interclub, participants must have a current Handicap Index of 18.4 or lower, while women must have a current Handicap Index of 36.4 or lower. Players with an index greater than these limits are still eligible to play, but their index will be reduced to the maximum Handicap Index (18.4 for men and 36.4 for women) for any match they play.
-
What handicap allowance will be used for Interclub matches?
Per USGA’s handicap allowance recommendation for Four-Ball match play, all players will play to 90% of their Course Handicap, using their current Handicap Index (or a reduction thereof).
-
If I don’t complete a hole, how do I figure out my score?
If a player starts the hole and does not complete it, or the hole is conceded, you will record “the score most likely made.” This score should not exceed the Net Double Bogey limit based on the current index. (see Rules of Play for more explanation on "Most Likely Score.")
Registration
-
How much does interclub cost and what does that cost get our club?
The AZ Golf Interclub entry fee is $500 per team.
Your registration includes:
- Access to the Golf Genius Interclub software which includes premium features and is exclusive to participating teams
- Perpetual trophy engraved annually with the winning club
- A banquet at the Championship for the two final teams
- All logistics handled by AZ Golf, so your club only focuses on building a team and playing golf
-
Can we form our own groups?
Yes. If you wish to form your own group of four you can enter the group details on the sign-up form including the club and team captain names. All four clubs must agree to be in a group together. If you don’t wish to form your own group, your club will be assigned a group by AZ Golf staff based on club location and likeness.
-
How many players can be on my team?
Your team size is unlimited, and these players may participate in the matches at any time during the season. The men will have 8 players play each week while the women will have 4 players play each week.
-
How are the guest greens fees set?
The four clubs in each group, through their team captains, decide together what to charge (if anything). We encourage groups to agree on one consistent price across all host courses to keep it fair. Clubs could choose options such as:
- Charging a set fee (e.g., $70 at each course)
- Comping greens fees and charging only a cart fee
- Comping golf entirely and having guests pay for lunch
Once groups are finalized, AZ Golf will help facilitate that discussion. Groups are paired with like clubs to make price agreements easier.
Club & Captain
-
What is the club responsible for?
Each club will need to designate a team captain who will manage the team portal, all match-day logistics, any reports made to AZ Golf staff, and communication between all team captains. Each club will host at least three matches as you play each team in your group once at home and once away. Teams who make it to the playoffs will host their playoff match if they are the better seed.
-
Who should the team captain be?
The team captain can be a player on the team, a club representative, or a staff member.
-
What arrangements do the captains need to make for the match?
Host team Captains arrange for the match to be played by the scheduled date, arrange for tee times, and practice rounds if applicable and select team members.
-
When hosting, how many tee times are required?
- Men’s matches – reserve 4 tee times
- Women’s matches – reserve 2 tee times
-
When are the matches played?
Generally, matches are played on Thursday afternoons. However, if both Team Captains agree, the match can occur any day or time prior to the scheduled match day. If teams cannot agree on an alternative date, the match should be played on the scheduled Thursday. If an alternative date is decided upon, this must be communicated to AZ Golf Interclub staff.

-
Can our team play a practice round the day of the match?
No, practice will not be allowed on the host course on the day of the match.
-
Who schedules the practice round?
Arrangements for practice rounds should be scheduled by the Team Captain and made in advance with the host club and scheduled at a date, time, and price agreeable to the host club.
