The 2026 Arizona Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship wrapped up at Moon Valley Country Club on Saturday with Suzi Spotleson claiming the title at 6-over-par across three demanding rounds of stroke play.
This victory marks Spotleson’s third coveted kachina trophy, a keepsake given exclusively to champions of AZ GOLF events. But this one means a little more to Spotleson.
“This one’s pretty awesome,” She said. “The other kachinas are from two senior events. This is a mid-am and it’s a short window for me here. This one is pretty special.”
And special it was. Spotleson’s performance included eight birdies over the course of the tournament, with a standout one-under-par round on Friday which helped create just enough separation from the field. Chasing behind were Samantha Postillion (+11) and Corey Weworski (+13), but neither could close the gap by Saturday’s finish.
Her formula early in the week was simple and effective.
“First two days, I just hit greens in regulation all day and my putter was pretty good,” she explained. “I made enough birdies to keep me in it. Last day I was just kind of hanging on.”
That final round, though less polished, showcased her grit. With fast and firm greens as a roadblock, Spotleson leaned on smart course management, intentionally hitting short on her approach shots.
“If the pin was back, I played to middle. If the pin was middle, I played to the front edge. If the pin was up, I just hoped that I got the right bounce off the fringe,” she said. “Fastest greens I’ve played this year.”
It was that blend of discipline and adaptability that ultimately sealed the win.
This was the first of five AZ GOLF women’s major championships this year. Next on the schedule is the Women’s Four-Ball Championship hosted by Anthem Golf & Country Club at the end of May.
